Advising

As an interdisciplinary major, academic advising is especially important in American Studies.  Students work closely with their academic advisor for the major in addition to the program director to develop a course of study. Students select an advisor in conjunction with the program director when they declare themselves as American Studies majors.  The advisor will assist the student in planning their curriculum and course selection.  The program director will assist with advising, approve study abroad proposals, and conduct degree audits.  In the senior year, students will select a thesis advisor to work with them on their senior project.  The thesis advisor need not be the same as the academic program advisor. Please see the page on the senior thesis for more information.
