Andrew Owen ('04) and Ross McDermott, after 13 months of criss-crossing the USA, exhibited a portion of their photo-documentary project The American Festivals Project in the prestigious photography festival, FotoWeekDC 2009. The American Festivals Project, partially funded by a National Geographic Young Explorer’s Grant, explores America’s variety of small-town festivals, with the aim of discovering and photographing a rich diversity of culture that has in part remained hidden. There are an endless number of colorful, mind-blowing events that span the calendar from January to December. After majoring in American Studies at Georgetown University, Andrew Owen was once again excited to turn his eye to the American landscape, its people, and to the diversity of their rituals and celebrations.

Christina Weyl (’05) began graduate work this Fall for her PhD in the Department of Art History at Rutgers University. In addition to coursework, she works with the curators at the university's Zimmerli Art Museum. The Zimmerli's collection is comprised primarily of prints and works on paper and, among its other strengths, the museum has great holdings in 19th and 20th century American prints.
